Falkor and I met in 2014 when I worked as a lead veterinary technician at the city of Rancho Cucamonga Animal Center. He came into our facility with severe injuries as he was hit by a car. He suffered a broken ilium, torn abdominal wall, and a fractured, dislocated pelvis.

Like many modern love affairs, my relationship with Frankie began online; what was unusual is it happened on Ravelry, a site for fiber arts enthusiasts - and all of their many other fandoms, including dachshunds. Another member was fostering a wire-haired dachshund and her nine puppies (backyard breeder rescue).

Critter of the Month: Frankie

We met Fiddle in January of 2020, two weeks before the pandemic began. We had been wanting to adopt a dog for a long time, and were waiting to learn about a dog that needed a new home. We discovered that there was a dog named Daffodil at a shelter called Pets in Need in Palo Alto. We drove down to meet her, and it was love at first sight! We ultimately renamed her Fiddle!

Habibi was mostly feral for the first six months of his life, but someone was feeding him, so he didn't have a fear of humans. When Andrea's Dream Rescue brought him to my place, he immediately rolled on his back to expose his belly, a sign of trust.

We adopted Juniper (June for short) from the Berkeley Humane League after seeing her picture on their website. She crawled into our laps when we first met her and that was that! She's a German Shepherd Mix, and is now about 4.5 months old and getting to experience lots of new things like the beach, hiking, and neighborhood walks.

<p dir="auto">Dr. Patrick Pierson draws on his extensive experience in small animal medicine to provide exceptional preventative and surgical care for his clients. Originally from Paris, Dr. Pierson earned his doctorate in veterinary medicine from Ross University. Since graduating, he has focused on dogs, cats, pocket pets, and rabbits, with a special interest in dentistry, soft-tissue surgery, and internal medicine. Dr. Pierson enjoys playing soccer, gardening, and traveling – especially to visit family and friends in France. He lives in Berkeley with his wife, daughter, their three-legged Griffon, Ginger, and mischievous kitty, Gale. Dr. Pierson looks forward to seeing you at CVC soon.</p>

Dr. Patrick Pierson, originally from Paris, earned his veterinary degree from Ross University.
