Critter of the Month: Penny

In 2010, I had just turned 30 and was about to graduate from law school. My biological clock was ticking loudly but the demands of profession precluded a baby, so my mother gave me Penny instead. A baby would have been easier. People say that miniature pinschers are imperious, domineering and demanding, but after 15 years of living under Penny's reign I find that she's pretty reasonable as monarchs go.

We met Fiddle in January of 2020, two weeks before the pandemic began. We had been wanting to adopt a dog for a long time, and were waiting to learn about a dog that needed a new home. We discovered that there was a dog named Daffodil at a shelter called Pets in Need in Palo Alto. We drove down to meet her, and it was love at first sight! We ultimately renamed her Fiddle!

We adopted him from 1 Love Dog Rescue in Auburn, CA - and the moment we saw his photo, we knew he was meant to be part of our family. He looked just like our other dog, Curly - except with white fur and an extra dash of mischief in his eyes.
