Meet Butters and Puff! Butters: In 2010, I was living in Pittsburgh, PA. I got an email from the local animal shelter saying they had a surplus of cats and were having an adoption sale. I figured it wouldn’t hurt to go take a peek. There was a cuddly 2 year old named Liz (later renamed to Butters) that got my attention. She was dealing with an upper respiratory infection, and for the first few weeks together she was the cuddliest, most easygoing lil cutie. As she healed, her feisty self came out and she established herself as the queen of the house. Now IRead More →

Meet Atticus! Atticus came into our lives in August 2017. He is our first family dog and it was love at first sight. My brother and I saw him through the window, even before we set foot into Berkeley Animal Care Services, and returned the next day with our two older sisters in tow. Atticus has since become an irreplaceable member of the family. He loves going to the park, but requires an entourage if you would like him to play fetch. He doesn’t like the rain, but will gladly jump through puddles with you. He will sometimes huff and puff like an old manRead More →

Meet Viola! We adopted Viola in August 2005, from the Humane Society of Huron Valley (in Ann Arbor, Michigan), where she stole our hearts the minute we laid eyes on her tiny spotted frame.  We adopted her and her brother (Sebastian; RIP 2005-2017), and traveled around the world with them (Michigan-Southern California-Australia) before settling down here. From day 1, Viola has been a feisty little ball of fur.  Her favorite activity is to hunt and catch her “mice”, and she’ll even play fetch with you if you ask nicely enough!  She’s quite a proper cat, and is normally prim and tidy, but she’s been caught being goofyRead More →

Meet Mingo! A note from Mingo’s mama: Mingo and I met in 2007, when I adopted him from Berkeley East Bay Humane Society. He had been found as a stray in Central California (not sure how he managed to survive on the streets, as he is a very princely and pampered little guy). I soon learned that Mingo was incredibly smart, and was able to train him to do various tasks that help me with my mobility disability.  Mingo can turn on touch lamps, pick up or fetch various items, and even close the door (although it requires a running start!).  He comes to workRead More →

Meet Oliver! Oliver is a five year old black cat. He joined our family one day after a long week at work for his soon-to-be-owner(me) led to browsing kitten pictures online. When I saw the adorable picture of him on the Humane Society of Silicon Valley website, I knew he would be the perfect addition to the household – but his name, Boomer, had to go. Instead we called him Oliver, after my late great-grandfather. Oliver LOVES snuggles, food, being carried around the house in paper bags, and watching the birds outside. He’s not so fond of his adopted sister Lilith, sharing toys, or beingRead More →
